The boy in the mirror part would not only make Jacques Lacan proud, but also the Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky. In 2005 he directed a fantastic 40 minute film solely devoted to the moment of his son being confronted by a (gigantic) mirror and his own image for the first time in his life. Check it out if you get the chance, it's called "Svyato".

Your Aunt Jennie was 24 years old and living in Schnectady, New York in that film clip. They lived in the upper story of a two-story flat....obviously no garage for the VW.
